Heading South - the dash for unconventional fossil fuels in Argentina

The global hunt for shale gas and shale oil reserves has drawn fossil fuel energy companies to Patagonia, southern Argentina. Shell is test drilling and wants to start large-scale fracking operations - including in nature reserves, and in an overall very drought-prone and pollution-vulnerable region. While profit margins in the US are already very low and companies including Shell are actually losing money on their US shale gas adventure, this report shows the Patagonian dash for gas could prove a wrecking experience, most of all for the people and the local environment.
