In 2000, Greenpeace Netherlands and Milieudefensie requested Dutch banks to apply sustainability criteria when financial services are provided to the Indonesian oil palm sub-sector. The banks appear to support this concept but some state that they have since long applied environmental criteria to their investment decisions. The NGOs are still concerned that these banks may not fully acknowledge the environmental and social impacts of their investments in Indonesia's plantation business. Testcase: PT Matrasawit.
